Marseille Provence Airport

Taking off again

A new visual identity rooted in its environment: France’s third-largest airport, Marseille Provence Airport is without doubt the most beautiful gateway to the South of France, with its distinctive architecture: open to nature, entirely glazed, where you can see from inside to outside, on one side the Mediterranean Sea, and on the other the hills of Provence.

The brand takes off

Marseille Provence Airport caters to several audiences. B to B, with airlines whose traffic continues to grow on more than 130 international routes, and its B to C public, which will represent more than 10.8 million annual passengers by 2023, for whom it will preserve its characteristics as a local airport. It unveils an energetic, bold new visual identity, while affirming its regional roots, with a unique double-view of the sea and Provence.

“Our ambition is to make Marseille Provence Airport a benchmark in Europe for operational efficiency and customer experience. Our actions will be consistent with those of all local players, to contribute to the economic development and international influence of Marseille and its region.”
Philippe Bernand Chairman of the Board, Marseille Provence Airport

A bold, energetic new visual identity.

Provençal inspiration

Ideally located between Marseille and Aix-en-Provence, the airport concentrates all the riches of Provence on its site. Between its southern facade – on the sea side – open to Greco-Roman civilizations and North Africa, and its northern facade – on the land side – overlooking the Sainte-Victoire mountain range, the Alpilles and the Luberon. Saguez & Partners drew on this region of color and light to define the common thread of the new visual identity.

Architecture and logotype in sync

Innovative in France in the 60s, on the model of airports in Sao Paulo and La Réunion, the tectonic architecture designed by Fernand Pouillon lets in natural light and the colors of Provence through large vertical bay windows built by architect Norman Foster. The building and the contrasting, lilting landscape inspired the new logotype, which has an energetic, bold rhythm, like a musical framework. Marseille is next door!

Lights and colors of Provence

Sea side: azure blue, Mediterranean blue, calanques blue, matisse blue, sail blue.

Mountain side: olive green, sun yellow, sand yellow, Montagne Sainte-Victoire ochre, Van Gogh orange, Terre d’Oc red.

The colors form a range on a white background, calming the anxiety of the journey. Here, planes land in the middle of nature. On the airport forecourt, the avenue of umbrella pines is a continuation of Marseille’s Cours Mirabeau. Take a deep breath! You’ve arrived in Provence.
